The Postgraduate Program in Civil Engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) was the first “stricto sensu” Postgraduate Program in Civil Engineering in Brazil, with the creation of the Master's course in the area of Structures (1965) and in the area of Geotechnics (1967). In 1969 the course was recognized as a Postgraduate Center of Excellence by the CNPq and as a Latin American Postgraduate Center by the Organization of American States (OAS). The Doctorate course began to be offered in 1985, also in the areas of Structures and Geotechnics.
In its more than fifty years of existence, as a pioneer in postgraduate studies in Civil Engineering, the Program has made a great contribution to the training of qualified human resources in the areas of structures and geotechnics, currently counting on graduates working as teachers in more than 100 universities in the country. country and abroad, including the main public HEIs in Brazil.
The superior quality of the Postgraduate Program is widely recognized by the country's academic and engineering communities, always very well classified by Capes, as shown in the history of concepts and degrees awarded to postgraduate studies since 1977.
